CECIL O’BRATE ENDORSES KENT ROTH FOR CONGRESS
Kent Roth, Ellinwood Lawyer, signed his Federal Election Commission papers this week to comply with being a candidate for Congress in the First District of Kansas. His first campaign stop was Garden City to receive the endorsement of Cecil O’Brate pictured with Roth at the American Warrior office in Garden City. American Warrior is an independent oil and gas producer which drilled more wells in Kansas last year than any other company. Mr. O’Brate has several other business interests as well as being active in many community organizations and a pillar of the Republican Party not just in Kansas, but on a National level. Mr. O’Brate is a personal friend of US House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
Roth said: “Cecil O’Brate loves his country and wants a change from negative conduct to a positive Congressman who views his job as making the government work. I am honored to stand with him.”
Kent Roth established an Exploratory Committee on December 5 and recently announced he is a candidate in a facebook post, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=196309243896117&set=pcb.196310227229352&type=1&theater ,directed to the incumbent, Tim Huelskamp.
Mr. O’Brate was aware of a whisper campaign the incumbent planned and suggested Kent Roth address the matter. Roth followed Mr. O’Brate’s recommendation stating: “During my over 34 years as a lawyer, I have received 2 warnings. One over a Last Will & Testament I drafted in 1982; the other over the death of a worker in an industrial accident in 1991. Contrary to what is being whispered, I have never been accused of stealing money from a client. Lawyers who steal money form a client are disbarred. I have never been disbarred or suspended from the practice of law.”
Roth recently changed legal malpractice insurance companies as the carrier he was with for over 20 years was downgraded from an A to B rating by A.M. Best. The new insurance carrier didn’t require a report on the two censures and insured Roth for any claims made going back to when he became a lawyer in 1979.
Roth said: “Perhaps this will keep the allegation from being raised by Huelskamp, I hope we may both work for the common good of the Republican Party and the 1st Congressional District of Kansas by agreeing to a one-on-one contest limited to policy issues not personalities.”
A Democrat, Jim Sherow, K-State History Professor and a former Mayor of Manhattan, Kansas recently announced he is exploring running for Congress in the 1st Congressional District and has a web site accepting campaign contributions at http://www.supportsherow.com/
J. Floyd Breeding of Dodge City was the last Democrat elected to Congress from Western Kansas in 1956 and served until his District was merged with Bob Dole’s District in 1962.
